Getting to Caltech - Airports & Campus Parking

How do I get to Caltech from the airports?
From either Los Angeles International Airport or the more convenient Burbank Bob Hope Airport, there are shuttle van services available to and from the airports 24 hours a day. Advance reservation is not required for service to Pasadena from the airports, however, a return reservation is required. There are several campus locations for picking up travelers which are considerably discounted. See the Shuttle Service Agreement. Also, the fare decreases if more than one traveler is picked up at a time. It is not recommended that visitors arrive at Ontario Airport, as this is a distance of 50 miles from Caltech. The approximate one way cost to Pasadena from LAX is $30-40, and $20-30 from Burbank. Students also visiting UC Santa Barbara should be aware of bus service (Santa Barbara Air Bus) from LAX to the corner of Fairview and Hollister in Goleta, near Santa Barbara. This Bus Stop is approximately 2-3 miles from the campus. Visitors stay in the Holiday Inn on Calle Real Street in Goleta, approximately one mile from the Bus Stop. Hotel shuttle service is available. Students visiting UC Berkeley and Stanford can take flights from either LAX or Burbank airports directly to Northern California. The newest public transportation option in this area is the Metrolink rail system. The closest stop to Caltech is the Allen Avenue station. From the station you can catch the ARTS bus Route 10 which travels around Pasadena and will stop at three locations along the north side of campus: Del Mar Blvd & Hill (closest to the Saga Motor Hotel on Colorado east of Hill Ave.), Del Mar Blvd & Chester, & Del Mar Blvd. & Wilson which is the closest stop to the physics offices in the East Bridge building near the corner of Wilson & California Blvd. The buses run every 15-30 minutes, the standard fare is 50 cents, transfers are free of charge. Because of the many lower cost options available for local ground transportation in the greater Los Angeles area, we can no longer reimburse for taxi service from the airports. Receipts for ground transportation are required for reimbursement.
I'm driving to Caltech, how do I get there, where do I park?
From the 210 Freeway, to find the Saga Motor Hotel take the Hill Avenue exit and go South to Colorado Boulevard, turn left. The Saga is located on the North side of the street directly across from Pasadena City College. To find the Caltech Campus, continue South on Hill Avenue to California Boulevard, turn right. Half-way down the block just past Arden Drive is a parking lot and tennis courts. The Bridge Building is directly across the street from the tennis courts. It is not recommended that guests at the Saga Motor Hotel attempt to park on campus, as visitor parking is limited. If you still wish to make an attempt at parking, a Visitor's Permit is required for all vehicles parked on campus between the hours of 7 am and 5 pm, Monday-Friday. You must obtain this permit from the Pay Stations located in the Tournament Lot #6 or the underground California Blvd structure #3. Permits may be obtained by the hour or day. The rates are $1.00 per hour or $5.00 per day. Program visitors should not attempt to park in the 90 minute non-permit visitor's spaces as time limits are strictly enforced. You may also park on the streets surrounding campus where two hour restriction signs are not present, however, the City of Pasadena does not recognize the Caltech Visitor's Parking Permits for all day parking on city streets with posted restrictions.
