Lodging for Visitors & Local Activities

Where will I stay during my visit?
Visiting prospective physics graduate students will stay as a guest of the Physics Department at the Saga Motor Hotel located at 1633 East Colorado Boulevard, near Hill Avenue, in Pasadena. The Saga Hotel is not affiliated with Caltech, the physics department has reserved a block of rooms for this event. A limited number of double occupancy rooms will be available only to program visitors at no cost to you for up to three nights; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. To take advantage of no cost lodging you must make a reservation through the Physics Graduate Office for the Information Day Program, NOT the hotel. It is suggested that visitors arrive during the day on Wednesday before the program, however, rooms will be held for late arrivals. If you wish to extend your stay at your own expense you must notify the hotel, by online contact info or by phone toll free 1(800)793-7242, by FAX (626)792-0559 or local (626)795-0431. Please be aware that the Saga is a 100% Smoke-Free hotel. If you have friends in Pasadena, however, it would be much appreciated if you made arrangements to stay with them as our available no cost hotel rooms will disappear quickly. From the Saga Hotel it is a 15-20 minute walk to campus. Rooms are typically double occupancy for admitted students only. Due to limited space, if you are traveling with a guest, you will be responsible for your own housing reservations and charges. Please note that for physics department visitors, only basic room charges will be billed to Caltech. Three meals will be provided on Thursday, lunch only on Friday, however, there are many inexpensive dining options available to students visiting Pasadena over the weekend. Check out the local transit guide to find your way around Pasadena and LA as well as the contact information for the shuttle services that will take you to and from the airports. Note that the Super Shuttle has four discounted stops (pdf) on campus for return trips to the airports. If you stay over the weekend you might want to visit the shops and restaurants in Old Pasadena or the Norton Simon Museum on Colorado Boulevard west of the Saga Hotel, or the Huntington Library, Art Collections & Botanical Gardens which are within walking distance or a short ARTS busride from Caltech.
