Information for New Arrivals in Physics

What should I do when I arrive?
If you have not done so already, please visit the New Arrivals page where you will find detailed instructions and what to do first. The official new student check-in is on Wednesday of General Orientation. Early arrivals should visit the Physics Graduate Office soon after you arrive on campus. We will need your campus housing address, phone number, social security number, and other payroll related information and forms on file before you can receive any stipend payments. Then report to the Center for Student Services (CSS) Building #87 on Holliston Street to check-in with the Dean of Graduate Studies Office in Room 230 CSS, and the Registrar's Office in Room 125 CSS, for instructions regarding registration, general orientation and obtaining your permanent ID card. International students must also visit the International Student Programs (ISP) Office located in 250 CSS, for instructions concerning the International Student Orientation and how to apply for a US Social Security Number. NOTE that the physics department requires incoming graduate students to take placement exams on the Wednesday of general orientation week. More info below.
