Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in Galactic Astrophysics at the Spitzer Science Center at Caltech. The successful applicant will work with Dr. Sean Carey and Dr. Alberto Noriega-Crespo in a number of projects involving High Mass Star Formation and the dense ISM using mid/far infrared observations obtained with the Spitzer Telescope from the GLIPMSE (IRAC) and the MIPSGAL (MIPS) surveys. Candidates should have obtained, by the starting date, a PhD in astronomy, physics or equivalent, in an area relevant to these projects. Experience with Spitzer data and other far-infrared space missions is required, and preference will be given to candidates with a strong background and interest in Galactic star formation and/or the physics of the dense interstellar medium. The selected candidate will assist the MIPSGAL team with some technical issues of the survey, although some other responsibilities will include analysis, modelling and interpretation of the data and publication of scientific results. The appointment is for two years, based on current funding, and will start as soon as possible. Salary will be $45,000- $50,000 commensurate with experience. The successful applicant will have some time for their own research, and will be able to propose JPL Time Allocation for access to the Palomar telescopes. To apply, please send resume, publication list, names of three references, and a statement of research to Alberto Noriega-Crespo, Spitzer Science Center, 1200 E. California Blvd., MS 314-6, Pasadena, CA 91125, USA, or via email to alberto@ipac.caltech.edu, by November 15, 2007. Posted August 23, 2007.
