Your Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA)
GRAs are paid from individual faculty research funds. Students with GRAs are expected to find a research group to support them. Graduate students are paid in twelve equal monthly GRA payments equating to a ~20 hour week. GRAs are paid on the 2nd to the last day of each month for that month beginning with October. The last GRA payment of the academic year is usually in late September unless you defend earlier. Students are only able to be paid a graduate assistantship through the end of the term in which they defend. When you join a research group, ask your advisor about academic year and summer support and be sure to notify the PGO that you have found an advisor to support you.
