Dark Matter in the Cosmic Context
Katherine Mack, DECRA Fellow, Astro Group, School of Physics, University of Melbourne,

Dark matter forms the foundation for all cosmic structure, though its fundamental nature is still unknown. As we begin to explore the first galaxies in the universe with radio and infrared observations, dark matter's annihilation, decay, or other particle interactions have the potential to affect early structure formation. I will give an update on the quest to identify dark matter, major unsolved problems, and how new observations of the epoch of structure formation can tell us about dark matter. I will also discuss plans to carry out the Southern Hemisphere's first dark matter direct detection experiment in Australia. [Papers: arXiv: 1309.7783, 1411.3783]
