IQIM Postdoctoral and Graduate Student Seminar

Fault-Tolerant Computation with Rotated 4D Toric Codes
Dave Aasen, Microsoft Station Q,

Abstract: Recent progress in neutral atoms, trapped ions, and other platforms with flexible connectivity opens new opportunities for quantum error correction beyond strictly two-dimensional layouts. In this talk, I will describe a family of rotated 4D toric codes obtained by quotienting the four-dimensional integer lattice by optimized sublattices. I will focus on the construction, code search, and fault-tolerant architecture developed in arXiv:2506.15130. In particular, I will discuss a [[96,6,8]] rotated 4D toric code with weight-6 stabilizers, depth-8 syndrome extraction, single-shot decoding, and favorable circuit-level performance. I will also describe how lattice symmetries and lattice surgery can be combined to implement logical Clifford operations.

Following the talk, lunch will be provided on the lawn outside East Bridge.
