Baryon Junctions in Effective String Theory

We discuss the effective theory of junctions between long confining strings. These junctions were observed in baryonic states of lattice QCD. We show that, at low energies, their dynamics are universally governed by two classical parameters: the junction mass and the string tension. We analytically determine the baryon spectrum, in particular the ground-state energies, up to order (baryon size)^{-3}. Using open-closed duality, we further compute s-wave scattering amplitudes of large glueball excitations. These amplitudes satisfy interesting selection rules as a consequence of a novel accidental symmetry of the junction, which we explain in this talk.
