The Ramsey numbers: new results and new perspectives
Julian Sahasrabudhe,
Professor,
Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics (DPMMS),
University of Cambridge,
First introduced by Ramsey in the 1930s, the Ramsey numbers have become central objects in combinatorics and have inspired a rich and beautiful theory. However, until recently, there has been very little improvement in our understanding of the Ramsey numbers themselves.
In this talk I will survey the main questions in this area and highlight some of these exciting recent developments. In later lectures, I will further discuss some of these results and emphasize the new ideas and connections to other areas.
