Speaker's Bio:
Gregory Margulis was born in 1946, graduated from Moscow State University in 1967, and became Candidate of Science (Ph.D) in 1970. In 1983, he became Doctor of Science. From 1970 until 1991, he worked at the Institute for Problems in Information Transmission of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. He has been a Professor of Mathematics at Yale University since 1991. Dr. Margulis has received the prize of the Moscow Mathematical Society for young mathematicians (1970), Fields Medal (1978), Humboldt Prize (1995), and Lobachevsky Prize (1997). He is an honorary fellow of the Tata Institute for Fundamental Research and received an honorary doctoral degree from the University of Bielefeld. He is also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences.
