Oh no, not de Sitter!
Strong evidence exists for two eras of accelerating expansion of our universe, indicating two epochs for which our universe can be best approximated by a de Sitter spacetime. However, out of all of the maximally symmetric spacetimes, de Sitter is arguably the most challenging spacetime for actually doing physics. In this talk I'll review some of the standard issues that arise when thinking about particle physics and gravity in asymptotically de Sitter spacetimes. I'll then discuss some recent work on causality conditions in de Sitter.
