Exploring Entropy-Positivity Bounds

Positivity bounds provide powerful constraints on the Wilson coefficients of low energy effective theories.  However, generalizing such constraints to systems in which Lorentz invariance is broken — such as in cosmology or condensed matter systems — remains notoriously difficult.  Recently, it has been suggested that the physical requirement that a system's entropy should increase when accounting for microscopic degrees of freedom might be used to constrain low energy theories even in the absence of Lorentz invariance.  In this talk I discuss a variety of examples that support such a conjecture as well as interesting counterexamples that seem to limit its scope.
